Cheryl Gyant Building

An Author and Speaker telling the story of her birth mother to challenge audiences to overcome adversity

Cheryl Gyant had always known she was different—after all, most of her life she had been well aware of her adoptive roots. But what she didn’t know was that her birth mother was part and parcel of a dark chapter in history—a history littered with violence, murder and mayhem.

Her birth mother, Sheryl Okoro, known to many simply as Sheri, lived amidst the turbulence of the 60’s and 70’s. Throughout her birth mother’s short, but eventful life, she continually defied societal norms, pushed boundaries, and tried to stand up against a system that tried desperately to define her.

Cheryl asks her audience to explore that unique story and use its lessons to push forward through turmoil and help others find their voice.
